How to Overcome Anxiety
Anxiety is something that can be overcome. It’s an overwhelming feeling or emotion of fear, uneasiness, and worry. We always have the choice to not let it conquer us like a slave-master. When we feel anxiety come upon us for whatever reason, we should try some of the following steps to help overcome it.
Pray – Ask God to help you overcome this anxiety and for His will to be done in your life no matter what happens or has happened. He is always listening, even when it seems like He isn’t listening at all.
Do God’s work – Do something good for the poor, donate to a charity, do some yard work or housework, etc. Doing something for someone else – even if it is small and simple- will help take your mind off of yourself and your problems temporarily.
Listen to gospel music – Music has an amazing effect on our feelings and emotions. Gospel music will help to uplift your spirits and remind you that God will lift you high.
Remind yourself of the truth – Remind yourself that this is temporary and there is a reason for everything – even pain and torture. Remembering this will help bring peace to your heart and mind.
Take a nice, hot bath/shower – Taking a bath or shower can help relax our bodies and minds. It will also help you to feel refreshed! If it helps, bring some bubble bath with you into the shower!
Read scriptures – Reading God’s words will encourage your heart and have you feeling more at peace with yourself.
Journal/Doodle – Writing down your thoughts on paper can also help to clear your mind of the anxiety, guilt, or fear you might be experiencing. It will distract you for a while so you can think clearly!
Talk to someone – If you have a trustworthy friend or family member, talk about the things going on with you. It will help to talk it out and let some of your troubles go.
Exercise – Exercise can be a great stress reliever! Even if you only have time for a quick walk around the block- just get moving for a few minutes. Get your heart pumping and try to think clearly.
Drink water – Finally, it sounds simple but drinking plenty of water will help detox your body of any toxins in your system that can cause you to feel anxious or worried.
