What does Bible say about my identity in Christ?
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
Does becoming a new creation mean I will live a perfect life?
No one is perfect. But as a Christian, you do live a life of victory over sin and you fulfill your identity in Christ. If we continue to be conformed to this world and begin living like the lost, then we don’t have the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9).
However, if we don’t follow God’s leading, it doesn’t mean that we don’t have an identity in Christ. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9).
What about when sin does come into my life?
When you do fall into sin, your identity in Christ overcomes it. You need to realize that you are a sinner and that by yourself you can do nothing. That is why we need salvation from God, because of our sinful nature (Romans 7:14-25).
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:8-9
Which book in the Bible talks about identity?
The book of Romans talks about identity. In it, Paul discusses how being a new creation in Christ means that you are no longer bound by sin. You are now free to live a life pleasing to God. As you walk with Him, your life will become more and more fulfilling.
What is spiritual identity?
Your spiritual identity is who you are in Christ. It is not based on your performance or what other people think of you. Your spiritual identity is based on the fact that you are a child of God, loved and accepted by Him just as you are.
