What does the Bible say about sons
“My son, keep your father’s command, And do not forsake the law of your mother.” – Proverbs 6:20
This verse is particularly important because it speaks to the importance of a son obeying both his parents. Too often, a son can get caught up in pleasing one parent while neglecting the other. But this verse reminds him that both parents are important and deserving of his obedience.
What is Birthright in the Bible?
The term “birthright” generally refers to the rights and privileges that are inherited by a firstborn son. In bible times, the birthright often included a double portion of the father’s estate (Deuteronomy 21:17) as well as special privileges and responsibilities within the family and tribe.
While the bible does not explicitly state that all firstborn sons are to receive a birthright, it is clear that God values and honors the role of a firstborn son. In the book of Genesis, we see that even before Jacob and Esau were born, God had already chosen Jacob to be the recipient of the birthright (Genesis 25:23).
As parents, we can pray that our sons would view their birthright as a sacred responsibility and not take it for granted.
